Perceptions and Experiences of International Faculty Members in Saudi Arabia

Abstract

The current study has designed to examine the cultural adjustment experiences of international faculty members working in Saudi Arabia. Such insight is important because researchers have largely ignored Saudi Arabia when exploring cultural diversity in the modern workplace. The study examined the cross-cultural perceptions of international faculty members employed in King Abdulaziz University (KAU) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The study also aimed to establish a relationship between selected demographic characteristics (gender, marital status, and country of origin) and successful cultural adjustment. The results of the studyshowed that international faculty members at King Abdulaziz University had a moderate level of job satisfaction, organizational commitment and cultural adjustment. In addition, participants had not experienced a high level of discrimination.The study also found that female participants had a higher level of cultural adjustment than male participants. In addition, there was no significant difference in international faculty members’ cultural adjustments based on their marital status and country of origin.
